Why We Prevail
My name is Donnette Buckley, and I am the founder of We Prevail. I am a Christian, a mother, and someone who has faced some of life’s deepest valleys. After the devastating loss of my husband, my life was filled with pain and hardship—losing everything I thought defined me, and watching my children endure struggles no parent wants to see. But through it all, I found strength in God’s promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us.
Out of my pain, We Prevail was born. What started as a cry for help has become a ministry of hope. I realized that my suffering wasn’t the end of my story—it was the beginning of a new chapter, one where I could use my experiences to uplift others.
Today, through We Prevail, I am committed to serving those in need, whether it’s feeding the hungry, providing clothing to the poor, or simply being a source of comfort to the brokenhearted. We cook and serve meals in Canada and Jamaica and also provide essential resources, including household goods and food, to those in need. Additionally, we extend support to communities in Kenya by providing essential resources and assistance.
My story is not just about surviving—it’s about overcoming. And it’s about helping others believe they can overcome too. That’s why We Prevail exists: to remind people that no matter how hard life gets, we can rise above it together with faith, love, and determination.
The Birth of Compassion
My own journey through pain has shown me the power of compassion. My children and I walked through the depths of despair and emerged not burned, but renewed. This is the message I wish to impart: No matter how scorching the flames of life, we can prevail.
The Mission of We Prevail
Before We Prevail became a formal organization, it was a personal mission. Using my own resources, I began supporting those in need in my community. From food drives to clothing donations and personal care, our journey has been one of resilience, faith, and unwavering determination.
Today, we stand on the threshold of a new chapter. Our hearts are filled with hope and excitement for the impact we can make together. With the support of our community and the world, we are poised to transform lives and bring light to those in their darkest hours.
Through compassion and empathy, we can turn our struggles into a source of strength—not just for ourselves, but for others. My journey has shown me that even in our darkest times, there is light at the end of the tunnel. As Psalm 147:3 reminds us, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

The Symbol of the Cedar Tree
At We Prevail, the Cedar Tree stands as a powerful symbol of our mission and values. Known for its deep roots, unshakable strength, and remarkable endurance, the cedar tree reflects both our journey and our purpose.
Just as the cedar tree weathers storms and thrives through the ages, We Prevail is rooted in the belief that we can overcome life’s greatest challenges. The cedar tree represents resilience, durability, and the ability to stand tall no matter the circumstances.
For me, the cedar tree holds personal significance. Its strength mirrors the struggles I’ve endured and the unwavering faith that carried me through. Like the cedar, I have learned to stand firm, drawing nourishment from deep spiritual roots. This symbol reminds us that we are stronger than we think and that, with God’s grace, we can prevail.
